Palestinian Bible Society leader calls for prayer following Passover killings

JERUSALEM, Israel — Labib Madanat, Executive Secretary of the Palestinian Bible Society, has called on the UBS fellowship to pray for “renewed mercy for our land” in the wake of a deadly attack on a group of Israeli families celebrating the start of Passover.

The attack, which has been described by journalists as the “biggest and deadliest for several months”, was carried out last night (March 27) by a suicide bomber from the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, in a hotel in the northern seaside resort of Netanya. Many families gather there every year to celebrate Passover. At least 20 people were killed and more than 100 injured.

In an e-mail message sent today, a distressed Mr Madanat described the bombing as “a violation of human life and the sacred occasion of Passover”.

“Passover is about liberation from slavery into freedom and dignity, and about God intervening to save and bring mercy,” he said. “The same is true of Easter. Please pray with me for renewed mercy for our land and all its people, be they Jew or Arab, Muslim or Christian, Palestinian or Israeli. May God have mercy on all of us.” (193 words - PALESTINE.28.03.02)
