TORONTO, Canada — The Board of Governors of the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) has announced the appointment of the Rev Glen Pitts to the position of National Director.

An ordained minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, Mr Pitts, 58, has served with Youth For Christ, Every Home For Christ International (previously World Literature Crusade) and Campus Crusade for Christ. His ministry has taken him to more than 100 countries. In his last pastorate, in Kingston, Ontario, he hosted a half-hour programme shown on the local television station on Saturday nights.

Ken F Taylor, Chair of the Society’s Board of Governors, expressed delight that Mr Pitts had accepted the position.

“In his work with previous ministry organisations,” he said, “he has proven to be a visionary, with a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the development of new initiatives and revitalisation of already effective programs.”

Mr Pitts, who took up his new position last week, said, “I am very pleased to be a part of the team at the Canadian Bible Society. I believe that God has led me here for this time, to support the Bible cause. I look forward to helping further the mandate and worthy mission of the Canadian Bible Society.”

As part of his vision, he would like to see increased vitality at all levels of the organisation. He called for youthful zeal, passion and energy and the flexibility to “adjust to needed change”.

Mr Pitts lists his leisure interests as reading, riding his motorcycle and skiing. He lives in Mississauga, Ontario, with his wife Janette. They have two married sons.

The previous national director of the CBS, Fr Greg Bailey, left 12 months ago. Since then the senior management team, headed by Wally Sherwin, has guided the Society. (289 words-CANADA.16.12.02)
