American Bible Society pays tribute to Harold Clark BennettNEW YORK, USA The American Bible Society (ABS) has paid tribute to Dr Harold Clark Bennett, who died on July 27 at the age of 78. The death of Dr Bennett, who was elected to the ABS Board of Trustees in 1980, has left a profound sense of loss, according to ABS President Dr Eugene Habecker. After studying theology, Dr Bennett served as a pastor and chaplain. He also became a leading figure within the Southern Baptist Convention and served as one of the Vice Presidents of the Baptist World Alliance. His work with ABS involved membership of a wide range of committees and sub-committees, including the Committee on Trustees and the Translations Sub-committee. He was particularly influential in guiding the 10-year project to produce The Learning Bible, which features historical notes, illustrations and explanations. This work was a practical reflection of his belief that people need assistance in reading and understanding the Bible.
