God’s Word the focus of Children’s Day celebrations
By Juan Terranova, General Manager of the Argentine Bible Society

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — When churches in Buenos Aires province decided to organise a large-scale Christian event to celebrate Children’s Day last year, the Argentine Bible Society was happy to support their efforts with Scriptures provided through Opportunity 21.

The churches organised the celebration in the city of Dolores, attracting more than 2,000 children, along with parents and teachers. Twenty-two young people, including Bible Society volunteers, put on a special show and held games and competitions, all with the aim of presenting the Gospel message to the children.

Thousands of Bible Portions and New Testaments were distributed to the children and adults as part of an O-21 project aimed at reaching 30 per cent of Argentina’s population with God’s Word. Through the project, the Bible Society will support evangelism and outreach campaigns, organised by churches or individuals, with 11 million Scripture Selections, 100,000 New Testaments, 550,000 Bible Portions and 60,000 Bibles.

In the context of the current economic difficulties, which have brought deep despair to many Argentinians, this project has taken on a particular significance. (SR 29/10 - 4/5.02)
