Name UNITED BIBLE SOCIETIES, a world fellowship of Bible Societies 
Founded May 9, 1946 at a conference of national Bible Societies at Elfinsward, Haywards Heath, England. The first Bible Society – The British and Foreign Bible Society – was founded in 1804.
Mission The world fellowship of national Bible Societies joins together, as the United Bible Societies, for consultation, mutual support and action in their task of achieving the widest possible, effective and meaningful distribution of the Holy Scriptures and of helping people interact with the Word of God. Bible Societies seek to carry out their task in partnership and co-operation with all Christian churches and with church-related organisations.

Translation Currently UBS is involved in 688 translation projects worldwide – covering some 955 languages – and spends some US $11m a year on translation. The number of languages with at least one book of the Bible is 2,426 (comprising 429 Bibles, 1,114 New Testaments and 853 Portions)
