National and Family Bible

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — The Danish Bible Society (DBS) has published a new Bible edition – the National and Family Bible – for the people of Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II illustrated the new Bible, which is available in three different editions in Danish, Greenlandic and Faroese.

According to Peter Birch, DBS Publishing Director, the Bible, which appears in large print, is “a visible manifestation of the fact that the national community of Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands is a church community as well.” Greenland and the Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but are self-governing.

Poor eyesight

He added that the new Bible, which can be used as an altar and a family Bible, will also benefit people with poor eyesight. The Queen, who has illustrated books such as J.R.Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, and is well known for her artistry, was pleased to contribute to the National and Family Bible, producing about 50 illustrations and helping to design the covers. Three different crosses representing the three countries appear on the cover. (WR 358/5 - 03.01) [PHOTOS]
