BEIRUT, Lebanon — “The language of the Bible is the language of love!” said Syrian Orthodox Archbishop George Saliba as he reflected on what the Scriptures mean to his church. “The churches here are the mother churches in the region since Christianity began, and because of this we feel that the land, the people and the churches are one, living in the traditional Christian heritage,” he said. “Today we live the Bible as part of our life.

Quote

“One of our forefathers said that when we pray we talk to God, and when we read the Bible, God talks to us. Faith and the Bible are twins – outside the Bible there is no life,” he added. “Our church has been a pioneer in spreading the Bible among the nations. When I preach I quote not less than 20 or 30 verses from the Old and New Testaments.” A regular Bible Society partner, the Syrian Orthodox Church has hosted a Bible exhibition over the past 15 years and celebrates Bible Week each year.
