Turkeys currency crisis hits Bible Society salesISTANBUL, Turkey The recent crash of the Turkish lira will seriously affect Bible Society distribution because people will not be able to afford Scriptures, according to Ameniel Bagdas, the Societys Executive Secretary. Forecasters said the crisis would slow economic growth, push up prices and increase unemployment all points with which Mr Bagdas was in broad agreement. He said that a government was needed which would tell the truth and point to a way out no matter how painful from the crisis. He said that Bible Society staff, too, were finding the economic crisis very hard. (WR 359/18 - 4/5.01) e-139 |
