Bible Society distributes Scriptures to victims of Mozambiques latest floods
MAPUTO, Mozambique The Bible Society in Mozambique (BSM) has distributed nearly 10,000 Scriptures to victims of severe flooding, which has caused widespread destruction for the second time in a year.
The Rev Valente Tseco, BSM Executive Secretary, has, however, warned that many more Scriptures are needed. Although these Scriptures are not nearly enough to meet the need, they have made a difference to the people who have received them, said Mr Tseco. But many people still need help.
Rebuilding
Mozambicans have spent the past year rebuilding their lives after flooding left 800 dead and between one and two million homeless. Last year, Bible Societies around the world responded to an appeal by the UBS, funding the production of 332,000 Scriptures for Mozambiques flood victims. The last of these 5,000 Tsonga Bibles were distributed in January. Now, according to Mr Tseco, many of these Scriptures may have been lost in the latest disaster.
Destroy
Floods destroy everything lives, hopes, crops, bridges, roads, houses and factories, he said. Many people have lost all their belongings, including Bibles. The consequences of the floods are hunger and disease, and people need clothes and accommodation. Please pray for Mozambiques flood victims and for our Bible Society.
The BSM has appealed to the UBS for help in providing more Scriptures for flood victims. The UBS has provided support from the Rapid Response Reserve. Bible Societies are now urged to make contributions to help meet this need by sending gifts directly to the United Bible Societies World Service Center, Rapid Response Reserve, 7th Floor, Reading Bridge House, Reading RG1 8PJ, England.
