SOUHAG, Egypt — The Christian community in this large southern city welcomed the recent opening of a Bible bookshop by the Bible Society of Egypt (BSE). Funded through Opportunity 21, the new shop is the eighth and largest to be opened by the BSE as it seeks to expand its distribution network to serve Christians and churches throughout the country.

A Coptic priest from the nearby town of Al-Kosheh, which was torn apart last year by sectarian violence, said that the bookshop would provide great encouragement for his church and the townspeople. Ramez Atallah, BSE General Secretary, said, “The Bible Society’s long-term dream is to have a bookshop in each of the 20 main cities in Egypt. Because Christian products have to be sold through Christian outlets, it is imperative that the Bible Society has bookshops in areas where it wants to distribute Scriptures. This new bookshop will be the centre of Bible Society activity in the region.” (WR 362/39 - 09.01) e-155 [PHOTOS]
