UNITED STATES — A 16-year-old boy was saved from death at the hands of his mother when the bullet she fired at him was deflected by the Bible he was carrying. The episode took place in North Fort Myers, Florida, in September. The woman, 39-year-old Leslie Wallace, shot and killed her six-year-old son James at home and then drove to her family’s church where she fired her shotgun at 16-year-old Kenny as he stood outside the New Ministries church where he is a member of the band. “The Bible certainly saved his life,” said a policeman later. “Had his Bible not been in the way, he would have sustained the brunt of the blast and could very well have died.” In the event, he suffered minor scratches on his arm. Mrs Wallace then drove to a local pizzeria where her 19-year-old son Gregory was working and threatened the manager with her gun. The police kept the son on the phone and told him not to leave the restaurant. When police later pulled her over in her car she turned her gun on them and was injured when they returned fire. She has been charged with murder and attempted murder. (Miami Herald) (WR 364/WW1 - 11.01)
