Ministry orders new Bible for public libraries

ISTANBUL, Turkey — In December 2001 the Bible Society in Turkey wrote to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in Ankara offering to send copies of the forthcoming translation of the Bible to public libraries across the country. The ministry replied asking to be sent a copy of the new Bible for consideration. By the time of the official launch of the new translation, in October 2001, there was still no word of any decision. Finally, in February a letter arrived at the Bible Society’s offices from the General Secretary of the Ministry of Culture requesting 81 copies of the new Turkish Bible for distribution in public libraries. “We are grateful to you and wish you success in your work,” the letter added.
