CAIRO, Egypt — The Bible Society of Egypt achieved very strong sales in connection with the 2002 Cairo International Book Fair, despite the weak economy and a drop in business in the secular publishing sector.

Items sold during the period of the fair included 36,000 video tapes, 78,000 New Testaments and 24,000 Bibles. The encouraging performance was partly attributable to the establishment of innovative distribution channels, including a stall in a sports club, according to General Secretary Ramez Atallah. Widespread advertising has also helped to boost demand, and home delivery of orders has proved a very popular service. Overall, sales during the period of the bookfair were 40 per cent higher than in 2001. (WR 368/7 - 6.02) e-182 & e-196 [PHOTOS]
