Good news for an English farmer!

SWINDON, England — Perched up on a tractor, working alone for days on end makes a lonely time for a farmer, and if his thoughts turn to all the problems faced by agriculture in Britain it could well be depressing. But for Graham Hand, who farms near Skegness, in Lincolnshire, being on his tractor means spending time with God. For him, listening to the Faith Comes By Hearing Scripture cassettes has been life-changing. Worn out

He received  the cassettes seven years ago when he was a new Christian and through constant listening he has worn them out. The tapes, he says, are “as valuable to me as the key to my tractor.”

The British and Foreign Bible Society has replaced his worn-out cassettes and he also bought the New International Version of the Bible on CD.

He appreciates listening to the Scriptures in a simple format because it provides an overall perspective, and he finds listening to God’s Word this way very encouraging.

“Nowadays there’s a lot of change,” he says, “and this just brightens up the day. It would be fabulous for farmers who listen to all the bad news – like the corn prices deteriorating and farming in decline – to hear these cassettes. There’s so little that’s positive and people get worried. They’re looking to find something that’s encouraging – that is good news – and this is it.”

Now he wants to buy more sets of cassettes to use as a “stepping stone” with those who have attended Alpha courses and are considering going to church. The tapes, he says, are “a good tool to bridge the gap.” (WR 368/10 - 6.02) [PHOTOS]
