Som Dass retires from UBS after 17 years

READING, England — The end of October marked the retirement of Som Dass, Personnel Services Co-ordinator of UBS. Mr Dass worked for UBS for 17 years, after joining in 1985 when he and his wife, Ruth, and their daughters moved to the UK from Kenya. In Nairobi, he had worked for Shell, as well as serving on the board of the Bible Society of Kenya.

During his 17 years with UBS in London and Reading, he worked under five general secretaries and managed the personnel aspects of some major changes to the organisation. These included the setting up of what became the World Service Center in Reading in 1988, the overhauling of the UBS terms and conditions of service in 1991 and the global and regional restructuring of UBS in 1997.

The occasion of his retirement was marked at the World Service Center by a special lunch in his honour and the presentation of a leaving gift.
In his retirement he and Ruth intend to stay in Reading where they are active members of a large Baptist church.

Simon Strachan, UBS Senior Coordinator for Management Services, said, “We shall greatly miss Som’s gentle and caring contribution to the life of UBS and we wish him God’s blessing for what lies ahead.” (WR 372/36 - 11.02)
