Bible Society in Lebanon expands range of online Scriptures

BEIRUT, Lebanon — “I was visiting your site and was very happy to see the Armenian Bible.” This is just one of the many comments received by the Bible Society in Lebanon after it added a new Bible version to its biblical resources web site (www.elkalima.com).

The Society was already offering the Good News Arabic Bible online, but visitors to its site can now also read and download the Western Armenian Reference Bible, which was published in 2001 to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the Armenian Church. The Society’s online resources are now being advertised by SAT-7, which broadcasts by satellite to Christians in the Middle East and North Africa, and this has led to a rise in the number of daily hits on the web site.

Comments

Another outcome of SAT-7’s involvement has been that many people from across the region have been encouraged to e-mail the Society with their comments and stories. These bear witness to how effectively people can be reached via the Internet.

One man welcomed the Society’s support as he seeks to “grow in the true way of Christ, to know the real way of how to live as a Christian.” Another said that he was “astonished at the service you are providing for Christians in the Middle East. Thank you and God bless.” One correspondent pleaded, “Please try to make the Bible available to all Arab countries.”

Mike Bassous, the Bible Society in Lebanon’s Executive Director and Deputy General Secretary, believes that the Internet is a very effective tool for disseminating the Scriptures, and has called on the UBS fellowship to “pray that our service will continue to touch the lives of many.”
