UBS
Vice-President made honorary Samoan chief
SAMOA
UBS Vice-President
Dr George Barton was made an honorary Samoan chief, or matai, at a special
ceremony in Wellington. This honour was long overdue, according
to Samoan MP Leota-Suatele.
Dr Barton, who is also a former President
of the Bible Society in New Zealand, received
the mataiship in recognition of his strong advocacy before the Privy
Council of Samoan citizenship in the 1980s. He is the first non-politician
to be honoured in this way. (WR 375/8 - 3.03) e-230
