Train crash adds to Zimbabwes miseryHARARE, Zimbabwe The Bible Society of Zimbabwe is taking a collaborative approach as it responds to a train crash in which at least 40 people were killed and around 60 others injured. A fire broke out after a goods train and a passenger train collided near Dete on February 1, destroying 11 of the passenger trains 13 coaches. Rescue work is being co-ordinated by the Civil Protection Unit, with which the Society is looking to co-operate to get Scriptures to the injured in hospital. Bible Society staff cannot make the long journey to the hospital themselves because of severe fuel shortages. The Society is also planning a Special Message for You in Your Sorrow advertisement in newspapers. General Secretary Edward Mutema has called on the United Bible Societies fellowship to pray for the victims and their families. (WR 375/27 - 3.03) e-231 |
