In addition, a range of products based on the booklet has been developed, forming what is known as the Where Is the Good Samaritan Today? outreach package.
This booklet is the inspiration for two videos, both of which manage to offer a compelling and credible story while succeeding in their aims of challenging the audience to review their attitudes to people with HIV/AIDS.
The video that shares the name of the booklet is now available in English and French, with a Portuguese-dubbed version and a DVD version currently in development. To broaden the outreach of the package still further, the soundtrack of the video has been adapted and published on audio cassette. Versions are currently available in English and French.
The other video, Qui Est Responsable? LHistoire de Suzanne (Who is responsible? The Story of Suzanne), is currently available in French and is a cinematic interpretation of one of the case studies in the Good Samaritan booklet about attitudes to HIV/AIDS. Although designed with young adults in mind, both videos can be used for a variety of audiences and are designed to stimulate discussion.
The 12 flipcharts in the package, which display the talents of Rwandan artist Alphonse Kilimobecyo, illustrate scenes from the booklet for discussion purposes and naturally have a particular relevance to situations where the electricity may not be reliable. Available in English and French, they are accompanied by a users guide.
Following a meeting in Nairobi, the Africa arm of Good News Productions International, a Christian media ministry, has done a deal to handle the dubbing of the video Qui Est Responsable? It is now available in English and Swahili, and, it is hoped that other languages will follow.
Konstanse Raen, the Executive Producer of the video, said: The more people we address in a language that they fully understand the more we will be able to make an impact and change behaviour, and that is whats needed.
