BELGIUM (Flemish) — “The Bible is fun!!!” This enthusiastic response was typical of those received by the Belgian Bible Society (Flemish) following the visit to Antwerp and Mechelen at the end of March of Arkventure Bible Xplorer, a 25m trailer containing multimedia activities for children aged between nine and 12.

Developed by the Netherlands Bible Society (see World Report 375/33), Arkventure is now being taken up in other countries with close links to the Netherlands. In Flanders, its visit was greeted as positively by the media as it was by the children and their teachers who had the opportunity to learn more about the Bible in an engaging, entertaining way.

“Nobody would want to miss a visit to Arkventure,” said one child, while another found it “fun and informative.”

For teachers, Arkventure provides welcome support for Bible teaching in the classroom. “I am very happy with this initiative,” said one. “I have to do one project a year on the Bible. This can be difficult, but Arkventure is fabulous!”

As well as opening up the world of the Bible to children, Arkventure has another important role, according to the Bible Society. “One of the great side-effects we have seen of this event is that it has boosted local ecumenism, bringing Protestants and Roman Catholics together,” says An Eeraerts, Personal Assistant to General Secretary Pascal Lauwaert. “It’s great for our Bible Society to be able to serve the Catholic community by means of this valuable project. We rejoice in this ecumenical partnership.” (WR 402/22 - 06.06) [1 photo]
